PURCHASE ADDITIONAL UNITS
Provided you are still serving (either Regular or Reserve), existing members may increase the number of units held up to a maximum of ten. The most recent unit rate applies to new units and any lifetime discount would also be applied regardless of the number purchased. Members must complete a fresh application form (on Subscriptions page) including a medical declaration.
HOW TO CLAIM
Most commonly the Society is informed of a death by next of kin or other Corps organisations such as the Institution of Royal Engineers, the Royal Engineers Association or Blythe Sappers and the Society will follow up with the spouse/partner and/or next of kin. It is vital that your contact details are therefore kept up to date and that your spouse or executor is aware of your REOWS membership (ideally including your membership number and the number of units held) and how to get in touch with the Society, either by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or telephone (01634 409110).
The Secretary will do his best to authorise the pay out the tax free lump sum at the earliest opportunity, normally within 48 hours of notification. A copy of the relevant death certificate is required at the earliest opportunity plus a completed Initial Declaration form that must be witnessed before annuity payments can be set up.
Once in receipt of an annuity – normally paid on a quarterly basis (with tax at the basic rate deducted at source) – beneficiaries will be required to complete an Annual Declaration each Spring in order to confirm their details remain updated.
UPDATE MY DETAILS
IMPORTANT. The onus is on Members to inform the REOWS if:
- Your relationship status changes: inform us of the date, and the name and DOB of your spouse or partner. For those members who change their name inform us of your new surname. Should you become single, please touch base with the Admin Team to confirm your options as you continue your membership.
- You have children: inform the Society of their names and dates of birth.
- You retire from the Army: Although this does not affect a member’s benefits it is useful for the Society to know.
